On April 26, 2025, Mr. Wadee Al Handal, Chairman of Al Handal International Group (HIG) and President of the Iraqi Private Banks League (IPBL), participated in a field tour of Old Baghdad City, accompanied by the Governor of Baghdad, Dr. Abdul-Muttalib Al-Alawi. The visit highlighted the ongoing progress of the “Pulse of Baghdad” initiative, with a particular focus on the third phase, which involves the rehabilitation of the historic Al-Rasheed Street. The initiative seeks to restore the cultural and economic vibrancy of Baghdad’s oldest neighborhoods.

Old Baghdad has recently witnessed a strong revival, particularly in the Al-Mutanabbi and Al-Saray areas — both redeveloped during the earlier phases of the initiative. These neighborhoods have become lively cultural and Social hubs, attracting growing numbers of visitors to their bookstores, cafés, and traditional bazaars.

Mr. Wadee Al Handal affirmed the significance of collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in bringing new life to Baghdad’s historic center. He reiterated the importance of supporting initiatives that preserve Iraq’s rich heritage while fostering economic development and tourism.
