19.04.2025

His Excellency Irfan Siddiq, the British Ambassador to Iraq, visited the “Green House” project — founded by Mr. Wadeea Al Handal (Chairman of Al Handal International Group and President of the Iraqi Private Banks League) — to witness firsthand one of Iraq’s leading environmental initiatives focused on combating desertification and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Mr. Al Handal accompanied the ambassador on a tour of the site, where the technical team provided an overview of the agricultural methods in use and the modern technologies implemented to reduce waste and support clean, productive farming.

The Green House Project is one of the initiatives supported by the Tamkeen Fund, which is backed by Iraqi banks and sponsored by the Central Bank of Iraq. The project aims to restore green cover across the country’s arid and neglected areas through the cultivation of diverse, climate-resilient vegetation. It also promotes organic, chemical-free farming practices as part of a broader mission to enhance environmental sustainability and strengthen national food security.

This visit highlights the growing international recognition of Iraq’s environmental recovery efforts and the crucial role of public-private collaboration in building a more sustainable future. The Green House Project stands as a model of innovation, resilience, and long-term environmental stewardship in the region.
